HoliFrog Sunapee Sacred-C Brightening Powder Wash Review:

I received the HoliFrog Sunapee Sacred-C Brightening Powder Wash in my August 2021 BeautyFIX box by Dermstore. I have never tried a powder wash before and my expectation was not too high. Surprisingly, this powder wash has become a holy grail item for me! Or should I say, HoliGrail?! (Haha, sometimes I can be funny!😂)

Ingredients: Bentonite, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Kaolin, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Powder, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Powder, Maltodextrin, Bambusa Arundinacea Stem Extract, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Papain, Bromelain, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Powder, Kojic Acid, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice Powder, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Liquid Endosperm, Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Powder, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Powder, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Seed Powder, Vaccinium Corymbosum (Blueberry) Seed Powder, Sodium Hyaluronate, Acacia Senegal (Acacia) Gum
Upsides:
- To use this powder wash, you need to mix water with the powder. It sounded strange to me initially and I was a little apprehensive. Well, I am a huge fan of this powder wash and love the process of mixing water into the powder! For me, this allows me to customize how heavy or light of a cleanser I want daily, which is a huge plus! (More on this below!)
- Dermstore states that this powder wash “lets you customize the way you cleanse your skin on a daily basis,” and boy, is this accurate! If you want a light cleanse with a lather and some foam action, increase the ratio of water to powder, and voila! If you want to exfoliate and want a heavier cleanser, decrease the ratio of water to powder and you got it! I am a huge fan of skincare products that have multiple uses and this powder wash does both and does it well!
- Once you mix the water, the formula is activated. It almost feels like a clay wash and feels so gentle yet effective! With more water, it turns into a light cleanser that is still very effective. Some days, I use less water and it becomes a cleanser with heavier exfoliation and wow, it’s intense and amazing (yet still gentle)!
- This powder wash has vitamin C, papain, bromelain, cocos nucifera, and sodium hyaluronate. The papain and bromelain work to exfoliate while the cocos nucifera help with moisturizing and brightening. Vitamin C is a powerful ingredient that helps with brightening, repairing, reducing hyperpigmentation, and evening out skin tone. In addition, this powder wash also has sodium hyaluronate which ensures that your skin does not dry out and helps with moisturizing your skin! These ingredients are amazing and I absolutely love using this powder wash and how my face feels and look afterward!
- This is a powder formula (clearly, haha!) which means this is super travel friendly! Absolutely love this because I travel frequently so this has become my go-to cleanser to pack.
- The texture varies depending on the water and powder ratio. With more water, you get a runny texture with some exfoliation and light lather. With less water, you get a heavier and thicker texture with more exfoliation which almost feels like a clay mask!
- The scent – it’s very light and pleasant. It smells a little like a clay mask but also not overwhelming. It’s not strong at all and I am usually sensitive to smell, and this one does not bother me at all.
- Speaking of sensitive, I do have sensitive skin and this works very well for me. I also have oily skin and this actually cleanses very well without stripping and helps control the oil very well. My significant other has dry skin and this works very well for that type of skin as well!
- I have been using this powder wash for a month now, at least once a day and sometimes twice a day. My significant other has been using this daily alongside me. It’s only a 2.5 Oz bottle but we have barely made a dent! I thought we would run out of it by the end of the month and now, it looks like it will take several months to use this up which is fantastic! So, a little definitely goes a long way with this powder wash.
Downsides:
- I don’t have major downsides to report, but the packaging is hard to work. It comes in a small wide bottle with a dispensing cap. The dispensing cap makes it difficult to dispense the powder. Every time I tried to dispense the powder, it would blow out a little puff of powder into the air. I was starting to get the hang of it, but then the dispensing cap broke on me. It also made it harder to control the amount of powder being dispensed. It would have been easier if this was a wide jar with perhaps a small spoon so we could take out the desired amount.
- The price of $44 (as of September 25, 2021 on Dermstore) makes it more of an expensive cleanser. There are alternative options (keep an eye out for those reviews!) that are less expensive. However, it seems to last a long time since a little goes a long way and to me, the price is worth it even if it is more expensive than other options. As always, I will always include upsides and downsides to all reviews. The HoliFrog Sunapee Sacred-C Brightening Powder Wash has mostly upsides with only a couple of downsides in my opinion. This powder wash is amazing and so effective! I have oily skin while my significant other has dry skin and this was extremely effective for both skin types.
